Like if he had a deck that was mostly weak to insects, he would’ve struggled a lot more with weavil, and if his deck didn’t have a lot to deal with monsters going underwater, he would’ve struggled a lot more with Maiko It goes back to the philosophy of “is it better to be a jack of all trades or master of 1?” And if you can “will” any card you want and you’re facing a wide variety of opponents, why not be a jack of all trades?

Now we got Witesworn which miles cards up to the number of skull servants in grave in addition to the Horus engine unbricking skellys from your hand but provides either protection with Number 90 or Zombie Vampire for even more milling. Plus on a for fun level grass is back.

I hate errata's, don't get me wrong but changing Soul Charge's cost would be dope...make it 3000 LP per monster. I like the flavor of the card but 1000LP each is chump change lol

I liked this format, it was fun and varied. I bought 3 lightsworn precon and upgraded them into a dragon ruler variant. I have so many good memories of playing that deck.

Mannnnn, this reminded me that this was the last era of which I played the game for many years. As you went on I was like, "oh yeahhhh," as I remembered more and more stuff from that time. I miss that era so much. From like 2009-2014 I had some of the most fun i've ever had playing this game as somebody who played from the beginning even. I started playing again recently and im having fun but other than sky strikers I don't find the decks nearly as fun to play as back then. Every janjo video is such a huge nostalgia trip that puts a smile on my face, awesome vid as always thanks my dude!

This was the last format I played competitively, HAT feels like yesterday. Way to make me feel old.

I really like 2002 decks. I run a no-banlist 2002 format with friends and its nothing short of nightmarish and chaotic.

A couple things: A generative AI cannot compile an optimal deck because it cannot understand why cards are played or even the rules of the game. It would have no concept of a metagame. LLMs generate text by using statistics to calculate the word most likely to appear next, just like your phone does. They don't know what words mean or anything at all for that matter. This is why they can't tell a funny joke and struggle with questions like "how many Rs are in Strawberry?". A generative AI could attempt to build a deck using cards that are often used together but we can already do that without. Video game ai is different from generative ai. I think a video game which could competently play any devk you give it or allow you to quickly try different iterations of a deck you want to test without wasting a real opponent's time would be neat, but it is a different topic. As far as AI being used for card art or design, that is the point at which I would drop the game. Generative ai is built on work stolen from artists and Konami is bad enough as is failing to credit them.

The AI used for controlling a character in a game is not the same as Generative AI which is the one that has become the issue for many people. I don't think this particular subject is one that should be discussed in a distracted environment. There are many thousands of things that I can say on the subject, but I will simply say that it would be an insult to Kazuki Takahashi's legacy (as well as all of the great masters) and that the mass acceptance of it would lead to a cultural stagnation. If you have read the original Dune series, you will know about the "thinking machines". Unlike what Frank Herbert's son later interpreted after his passing, thinking machine does not refer to sentient robots, but rather machines which people use to think for them. This is what people are using GenAI for now. As well, we should remember the quote “Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.”

Hopefully this mystery gets cleared up at some point, the fans need to know!

Air neos with the full card art was featured in Duel Links in a cutscene in 2020 i think so the card art ltself cant be the reason.

Yeah I had my harpies at that time. All I did was add anti meta in my card collection. My friend had Frog Monarchs and he was doing pretty good as well. Rulers meant nothing to us. I don’t know about everyone else though. Although I am disappointed that Harpie player forgot his Pet phantasmal dragon during that YCS event during that format. 😣 He could have won that game vs Rulers. I will say it was a lot of Rank 7 I saw that year. 😅

Ah yes Dragon rulers. When my local rite aid was still selling yugioh cards, there were a couple of Galactic Overlords packs in this tiny shelf and I bought both of them. Got home and to my shock I pulled Big Eye. I was sooo freakin happy I pulled one as I was just starting to collect the number cards. This was over $100 card back then. I miss my rite aid... At least I still have the card.

I still think it’s the airline, they never seems to mess up arts rights stuff before or after. Cease and desists can be stupid I guess. Even if a court wouldn’t rule that the airline brand could be confused for the card, it’s not worth it to fight a court case.

Sometimes, I wish that our kind of rare cards was the same as the Anime/Manga's type of rare cards. As in limited copy of a cards. Like how there is only 4 Blue Eyes White Dragon in the entire world. If you were unlucky and didn't get that card, you just didn't get that card. And that dude over there always wins because he has all the powerful cards, that no one else can get their hands on it because there's not enough copies for everyone.

My best guess is that whatever agreement that Konami has with Gallop or NAS or whatever distributer for the anime, the first 5 Neos fusions are grouped separately from whatever agreement they had with Air Neos as Air Neos debuted in season 3 while the first 5 debuted in season 2, indicating that whatever agreement for the cards didn’t extend to include air Neos. Maybe they had to renew it and only bothered to do the original 5 and not whatever agreement had air Neos either because A. They couldn’t be bothered to do so or B. They purposefully chose not to as the other cards included with Air Neos weren’t worth bringing back so they chose to not complete the Neos set. A weak answer but the only thing I can think of.
